Bryanston Hills
A high density residential scheme on the edge of Blandford St Mary. (130 Dwellings). The project tames the motor vehicle through a series of tight bends with closed views and allows a rich mix of dwellings to address the street. The noise of a nearby bypass is screened be an earth bund which, at its highest point, is taken higher still and capped with a gazebo from which the new spaces radiate. Below this, an earth banked dwelling with a planted roof brings a contemporary feel to the streetscape. Each street, lane or mews has a special character deriving from existing trees retained in the public realm, from focal buildings, from the green, the gazebo and the school - but all reading together with a consistent architectural language of material and motifs. The project won the 2004 North Dorset District Council Design Awards both as their favourite housing scheme and 'Best overall'.
